#2326 new feature-request

don't bundle rencode

Description

I am the Fedora maintainer of Deluge and recently it was noted the Deluge bundles the Python implementation of rencode. Could you drop the bundling? I noticed that it is used as fallback but distributions generally don't prefer bundling anyway

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:No_Bundled_Libraries

Also the C version which provides the same interface as Python performs better

I am pushing a build in Fedora that removes the bundled copy. Thanks

  • Milestone changed from Future to 2.0
  • Type changed from bug to feature-request

I noticed that Ubuntu/Debian now offer a python-rencode package so this has become more feasible, although it is still not easy to get hold of the library for other/older OSs so will see if it can be listed on PyPi.

Although rencode is available on PyPi? there is still one outstanding bug that I would like to see resolved before removing from source tarball.
